Why was my tax refund returned to the IRS?

Direct deposits for tax refunds may be returned to the IRS if you: 

  • Use a name on your taxes that differs from what's listed on your account with us 
  • Tried to deposit a tax refund from another individual not disclosed on your account 
  • The information (Account & Routing, Name, etc.) entered is incorrect

If your refund is returned to the IRS please reach out to them directly for the next steps to receiving your funds. You can check the status of your refund by heading to the IRS’ Where’s my Refund? portal.
