What are Passkeys?
A passkey is a simple and secure way to sign into the app without creating or remembering a password. Passkeys are designed to simplify the login process by providing a more seamless and safe alternative to traditional one-time messages. When you use passkeys, you no longer have to rely on remembering or receiving temporary codes for authentication.
What are the benefits of adding a Passkey?
- A faster and more reliable way to access your account in just a few seconds. Say goodbye to those one-time codes!
- Protect yourself from phishing attempts and account takeovers!
How to Set Up Passkeys
Here’s how to get started:
- Log into your Current Account
- Tap on Account and then tap on Security
- Select Passkey
- From there, you can easily sign up for a Passkey!
Will My Passkey Be Automatically Saved On My New Device If I Switch Phones?
Passkeys work across all devices logged in with the same Apple ID (iOS) or Google Account (Android). If your old and new devices share the same credentials, your new device will automatically have a passkey upon logging in.
If you’re using a different password manager such as 1Password, your passkeys will be available when you set up the same password manager on your new device.
My Passkeys Registration Failed - What Can I Do?
If you’re experiencing issues setting up a passkey on Current, make sure you’re updated to the latest version of the app. Here are a few more things to watch out for:
- If you use an iOS (Apple) device, ensure Autofill Passwords/Passkeys is enabled in your system settings.
- Please note that passkeys are not supported on iOS 15 (if you're an iOS user). To check what version you're on, navigate to Settings > General > About.
- For Android users, make sure you’re using an Android 9 or above. Please note that passkeys are not supported on older devices or versions.
If you're still having issues, try these basic troubleshooting steps:
- Wait 15 minutes to one hour before attempting passkey registration again.
- If the issue persists, restart your device and attempt passkey registration once more.
- Uninstall and reinstall the app. Allow a waiting period of 15 minutes to one hour before attempting to register the passkey again.
If you’re still having trouble, make sure to check out Apple support docs if you own an Apple device. If you have a Samsung Galaxy or a Google Pixel, you can refer to the linked documents.
Is it Possible to Add Multiple Passkeys?
At this time, you are only able to have one passkey for your account.
Does my Passkey Ever Expire?
Passkeys do not have an expiration date attached to them. Once a passkey is generated, it will remain valid indefinitely unless it’s deleted from your device.
How do I Delete a Passkey?
To delete your passkey, navigate to Settings on your phone. If your passkeys are stored through a third-party credential manager such as 1Password, you’ll need to remove them from there.
For iOS users:
- Tap on Settings
- Scroll down and tap Passwords
- Select “Current” and tap Delete Passkey.
For Android users:
- Tap on Settings > Passwords & Accounts
- Tap on Google under “Passwords, passkeys, and data services”
- Tap on Google Password Manager and delete Passkey
How do I update my Passkey?
While you can’t delete a Passkey through Current, you can easily remove it from your device (scroll up for more info!). You do, however, have the option to update your existing passkey within the app. Here’s how you can update your existing passkey:
- Log into your Current Account
- Tap on Account and then tap on Security
- Select Passkey
- Select Update Passkey
